5,100 TONS A A DAY OF COSMETIC PRODUCTS…
During the convention EcoLabel e Cosmetici (Ecolabel and Cosmetic Products), which took place on 15th June 2007 in the Main Hall of the University of Ferrara, the following statement was made which notably influenced the considerations of our company: “The whole cosmetic products market in the 25 Countries of EU is equivalent to 2 million tonnes/year which corresponds to a daily per capita consumption of 12 grams in a population of 425 million people, in other words 5,100 tons a day of cosmetics products are used and are returned to the environment.”

It is an impressive fact when considering that all of us contribute to achieve numbers of such dimensions every day. In fact, according to the new regulation of 22nd December 2009 about cosmetic products, harmonizing the existing regulations on the subject (European Directive 76/768 EEC and subsequent modifications), the following products are defined as cosmetics: “creams, emulsions, lotions, gels and oils for the skin, face masks, tinted bases (liquids, pastes, powders), make-up powders, talcum powders and hygienic powders, toilet soaps, deodorant soaps, perfumes, toilet waters and eau de cologne, bath and shower preparations (salts, foams, oils, gels), depilatories, deodorants and anti-perspirants, hair tints and bleaches, products for waving, straightening and fixing, setting products, hair cleansing products (lotions, powders, shampoos), conditioning products (lotions, creams, oils), hair styling products (lotions, lacquers, gels), shaving products (creams, foams, lotions), make-up products and make-up removal products from the face and eyes, products intended for application to the lips, products for oral hygiene, products for nail care and nail varnish, products for external intimate hygiene, sunbathing products, self-tanning products, skin-whitening products and anti-wrinkle products.

RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
All of us, companies and consumers, have to face up to this data and have the duty to use ingredients and products which are safe and effective but which also have a low environmental impact.
Since Longema is “sensitive” to nature, it choose organic ingredients, or synthetic ingredients and vegetable extracts which are safe, efficacious and scientifically tested, to create formulas in harmony with the skin and the environment. Being committed to the continuous evolution of products for skin hygiene, Longema again responds to environmental issues through the development of new treatments using fabric with microfiber which reduces the use of cleansing milk, tonic lotions and other detergents.

Another efficient tool used by Longema to communicate its respectful approach to the environment is represented by the packaging and wrapping materials, which are carefully selected among various types of materials in order to guarantee easy and correct “differentiated” disposal.
Therefore all Longé packaging has a dedicated space “Longema for the environment” for the consumer, which contains information about the materials used and the way to dispose of them properly.
